Does the Burn Ban include fireworks?

  • Independence Day holiday fireworks are not included in this ban, however those who celebrate with fireworks must do so in the following manner:
    • Have a fire extinguisher, water supply, hose or bucket of water nearby in case of a fire. All used fireworks should be placed in a bucket of water.
    • Do not ignite fireworks near dry vegetation or any combustible material.
    • Monitor the area for several hours after using fireworks. 
    • Fireworks may only be allowed by those who have an approved fireworks permit with the County of Northumberland and the State of Virginia unless such fireworks are included on the permissible fireworks list. Does the Burn Ban include grilling?

  • The Burn Ban does not include grilling (charcoal or gas).
  • Individuals grilling must monitor the grill at all times.
  • The grill must have a lid/cover.
  • Charcoal must be fully extinguished before dumping.
  • A water source must be close by.
